Whether you’re conscious of it or not, marketing is all around us. It’s blanketing whatever app you’re on right now, it’s in the music you listen to, it’s on the shows you watch, and attached to the things you read. We can learn to exploit it to become better story tellers and human beings. I want us all to be experts at marketing, no matter the industry you’re in.

Here are the DJP Focus hacks and techniques you can apply to everything in your life, from your day to day interactions to your personal social media to the Fortune 500 company you work at. Use these to become a more efficient professional, a harder worker, and ultimately, a more well rounded individual.

This summer, DJP Focus highlighted weekly marketing tips, tricks, and advice for all to utilize while navigating the business world. We pulled stats and tips from all sorts of resources and articles.

I had a lot of fun making these images and researching these topics. A quick, little tid bit about me – but I think marketing is absolutely fascinating. What gave me away?!

From a business standpoint, I hope they helped. From an entertainment standpoint…well…I hope they entertained! But if nothing else, at least the images I whipped up are pretty sexy to look at.

I even put the most important takeaways in bold, so you can literally just scan this puppy and retain all that sexy information even faster.

You can read the early summer post from June here.

Alright ladies and gentleman, let’s begin!

Week #5: Branding –

Key Takeaway: Put time into aligning yourself with what you envision your brand being. Then make sure to live it, breathe it, and thoroughly buy into it.

One of the things that businesses in the 21st century have to be very intentional with is branding. The best route to start with is by having a solid company outline of what the mission is and how to handle overall online presence. Teach your employees to share good content, engage with others, and spread good company stories. In your personal life, live by a mantra that’s easy to follow and shares your story.

For me it’s “do sh** you want to do, when you want to do it”. I travel with my dog, hang in the mountains, and grow businesses…all things I want to do. I do them when I want (which happens to be quite often, luckily).

Think about it. It only takes 10 seconds to form a first impression with any company, it’s even faster according to some sources, so try to have your reputation precede you. Being consistent from there forward will eventually allow your audience to recognize your logo, mantra, mission, and overall experience your branding in a positive light.

Week #6: Web Design

Key Takeaway: Simply having a website no longer sets you apart. However, having a website that is constantly updated, has proper SEO, and contains eye catching content will.

Navigating web design in the 2000s is a lot like properly managing social media now. I’ll dive into this a bit more later, but here’s the gist of it: having an expert circumvent the world of coding and HTML was the only way to have a relevant site. Now, in a world of WordPress, Wix, Shopify and countless others – it’s far more important to have enticing images and content as well as proper Search Engine Optimization (SEO) rather just having a site.

That’s why goons like me have a blog where they churn out information, relevant stories, and articles about funny Tinder interactions.

Make sure to do the proper research, then hire an expert to not only build the site but manage SEO and content. Once all is said and done, be sure to keep everything updated! When was the last time you updated your business presence online? Take the time to add new images, videos, fonts, colors, and content to draw in a fresh audience. It might even be beneficial to look at your competitors to see what’s working for them!

Week #7: Social Media –

Key Takeaway: Social media is ever expanding and ever changing. Oversee it consistently to properly brand your image, engage your audience, market your products/ services, and tell your story.

Ah! And just like that, what I mentioned early has come to fruition. What I meant by saying “navigating web design in the 2000s is a lot like properly managing social media now” comes down to the simple fact that it isn’t a one step process. You can’t just set it and forget it like cooking chicken nuggets in the microwave. Social media has become a marketing facet, customer service phone line, review checker, soap box platform, and much, much more.

It’s important to have assets on all platforms and to check these platforms religiously! That means engaging with followers, sharing lively content, and promoting your brand. We live in a time where there are countless experts out there that want to help you grow, but the trolls inhibiting that growth are just as prevalent. Plan accordingly.

Week 8: Video –

Key Takeaway: Video use online is experiencing exponential growth. Whether it’s 30 second teasers or a 10 minute how – to, have subtitles, catchy music/images/content and be sure to cater to your viewers.

Social media platforms, websites, and apps alike are all getting in on the video movement. Algorithms favor good video content, viewers favor good video content, SEO favors good video content. Your business should favor good video content.

From a personal standpoint, share your life! We live in a highlight reel society, and personally, I f***ing love it. Load your Snap story up with a fun filled day of college football day drinking. Having an Instagram story meltdown? Share it! I’ll hate watch the crap out of it. Maybe you’re inspirational? Put it on YouTube! I’ll watch it to get motivated.

Use apps to help create simple videos to start and ramp up to setting aside time to create your own fun ones. Now’s the time to be an entertainer! Tell your story and more importantly than ever, be yourself.

Week #9: SEO (Search Engine Optimization) –

Key Takeaway: SEO (search engine optimization) cannot be ignored. Search results, website indexing, and properly formatted pages are the only way to have a high performing site.

You know when you go to a pop machine, and all you see is Coke and Pepsi? That’s a lot like what the internet has become. When was the last time you clicked to second page of Google search results? When was the last time you scrolled past the first five results? Or even the first three results?! It’s amazing just how crucial SEO is now.

Consistently putting effort into your site’s background as well as having assets like a working blog and uniform social are the best ways to truly hack search engine optimization.

The same way you put time and effort into making yourself more attractive when hoping to attract a mate at the local watering hole (this means ‘bar’, kids), can also be applied to SEO and your overall web presence.
